About Fredric D. Abramson, Ph.D., S.M., Esq.
President and CEO
AlphaGenics, Inc.
Dr. Abramson has five decades of business, scientific and educational experience that is directly relevant to fulfilling AlphaGenics’ mission. Dr. Abramson holds his Ph.D. in human genetics from the University of Michigan (1972) and a Master of Science in Management from MIT (1977) where he was an Alfred P. Sloan Fellow. He also received degrees from the University of Pennsylvania (A.B. mathematical biology, 1963), University of Rochester (M.S. biology, 1965), and the American University Washington College of Law (J.D., 1987). He is admitted to the bars of Maryland and the District of Columbia, and to practice before the United States Supreme Court and the United States Patent Office.
His business background spans diverse areas: two decades of consumer retail sales, wholesale distribution, computer software development and marketing, industrial manufacturing, publishing, and health & wellness which includes almost a decade in weight loss, dietary supplements and fitness. He spent three years in the record business. He worked for a record company and an artist management company. His job included local promotional activities and assisting in artist development and rock ‘n roll show tours. At the age of 19, he managed the record and appliance departments at Bargain City (a forerunner to discount box stores) in Philadelphia. In the early 1990’s, he was the exclusive distributor for the U.S. Government for emergency medical services training publications.
His technology and computer background starts in 1964. He spent a decade in the commercial computer software field, which included serving as Chairman of the Software Publisher’s Association Business Section in the early 1990’s. He worked on federal and state policy, including US Department of Health Education and Welfare Secretary Joseph Califano’s national policy review of alcohol abuse programs, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s measure of inspector objectivity, a policy analysis of future technology in emergency medical services for the US Department of Transportation, scientific experiment selection for NASA’s Spacelab, and serving as Chair of the Maryland Governor's Commission on Workers Compensation Laws. His community service activities include founding and serving as Chair of the Damascus Performing Arts Center, a community-oriented arts organization.
Dr. Abramson is recognized as a gifted teacher and lecturer. He holds an adjunct appointment at the Johns Hopkins University in its graduate programs for biotechnology (creating the biotechnology enterprise, financial management, and the economics of biotechnology) and information technology (organizational & legal issues in technology, international electronic business, economics, and technology fraud & abuse). Previously he held full-time academic appointments at the University of Kentucky Medical School (Assistant Professor of Community Medicine) where he founded and directed the Research Design Biostatistics Laboratory, and the American University, Washington, D.C. (Associate Professor of Management) where he taught business strategy and organization development. He also taught in the Executive MBA Program at Loyola College in Baltimore and the MBA program at the Georgetown University School of Business.
